Description
Akumal
Spend a day in contact with nature.Ā Akumal is located about 35 (22 miles) South of Playa del Carmen and it has been declared a sanctuary for protected species such as Green and Loggerhead Sea Turtles. In the past this protected area was only accesible by sea. Such marine habitat started getting deteriorated by the big number of trespassing visitors and unregulated snorkeling activities in big groups operated by big tour companies. Finally since 2017 this area has been regulated by restricting the number of visitors to practicing snorkeling. Now a certified guide must accompany groups of maximum 6 people. One must stay at a distance of 3 meters (10 ft) away from protected species, must wear lifejacket at all times for maintaining horizontal position and thus avoiding stepping on the seagrass; which is the food source of spotted sea turtles. Sea turtles must swim freely and in relaxing environment. One must allow them to come out to the surface and breath so keeping the minimum distance is a must for their healthy life. Definitely touching, holding or chasing them is extremely prohibited now, if one is caught breaking such Implemented control restriction will be walked out and denied entrance again. Following such protecting measures will allow next generations to keep admiring such incredible protected marine species. Inclusions:- Transportation
